Amano hand-cut and hand-printed his own blocks in the postwar tradition that elevated the woodblock print from a commercial craft into a fine-art medium. His work is held in the collections of the British Museum, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and Tokyo's National Museum of Modern Art.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAmano was awarded First Prize at the Italy International Print Exhibition (1968), exhibited at the 5th Switzerland International Woodblock Print Exhibition (1969), and won the Grand Prix at the Czechoslovakia International Print Biennial (1970). He participated in print biennials throughout Europe and South America in the 1960s and early 1970s, was invited to the 40th Finland Memorial Exhibition of the Print Association, and held a one-man show at Tokyo's Okabe Gallery in 1972.
