The maker's label is intact on the underside (see photos). \u003cstrong\u003eGispen (1890–1981)\u003c\/strong\u003e was the Dutch contemporary of Marcel Breuer and Mart Stam, and his Model 412 — first drawn in 1934 — is the cornerstone of Dutch tubular-steel modernism, in continuous production for more than four decades.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe chair is everything Gispen's design intended: a single cantilevered run of hand-shaped chromed steel tubing, springy under the seat, terminating in characteristic black bakelite-style armrests with their signature upturned curl. Upholstered here in a rich rust-orange velvet (recently re-covered, in beautifully tight condition) with crisp piped seams and clean tailoring on the seat, back, and floating headrest cushion. The chrome reads bright and unpitted; the bakelite arms are unmarked.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA serious collector's piece that still works as a daily chair — light enough to move, comfortable for a long sit, and instantly identifiable by any design-literate guest.
