An exceptional antique Oushak rug from 19th century Turkey, notable for its rare 14′ × 14′ square size and luminous palette. This handwoven wool rug features a striking central medallion framed by salmon, deep melon, and soft blue-gray tones, with an expansive border richly detailed in floral and geometric motifs.
The scale and color composition reflect the distinctive qualities of Oushak weaving, with a pattern rooted in classical Persian rug traditions. Unlike earlier examples with tighter drawing, this rug embraces a grand, more open style typical of late 19th century production, balancing elegance and informality.
Provenance: Previously evaluated by Tucker & Marks, San Francisco interior design firm, who noted its rare square format and placed value in the mid-price range of $46,000 at the time (2000).
Condition: Shows wear, repairs, and surface losses consistent with age and use. Stable overall with strong decorative presence.
