A genuine antique Persian rug, hand-knotted in wool on cotton foundation, still bearing its original lead Persian export seal (visible in close-up photos — embossed inspector's mark on a small lead disk threaded through the selvedge). This is the kind of provenance detail collectors seek out: confirmation that the rug left Persia through formal export channels in the late 19th or early 20th century.
The composition is built around a deep madder-red field carrying generously drawn geometric and floral motifs — a tribal vocabulary descended from Northwest Persian village weaving, almost certainly Heriz or one of its neighboring traditions. The wide navy main border carries an ivory floral guard stripe on either side; the rug shows excellent pile depth in most areas with sympathetic light wear at the ends consistent with its age.
The piece sits perfectly under a small dining table, anchors a seating area, or runs alongside a long sofa. The strong red and navy palette grounds traditional, transitional, and modern rooms alike; designers from Bunny Williams to Markham Roberts have used these tribal Persians as floor anchors in everything from Park Avenue dining rooms to Hudson Valley libraries.
Dimensions: 5'4" × 8'8" (64.75" × 104.5")
