An original colored etching by Henry Goering (German/American, 1871–1944) honoring Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — paired in Goering's signature format with a hand-drawn phrase of his beloved Wiegenlied (the famous "Schlafe, mein Prinzchen" lullaby long attributed to Mozart). The plate shows the iconic Mozartzimmer in the composer's Salzburg birthplace at Getreidegasse 9: the small front parlor with its writing desk, red-upholstered period chairs, gridded floor, paneled doors, and the gilt-framed portrait of the composer hanging above a wall of musical miniatures and prints. Inscriptions in pencil along the margins read "W.A. Mozart – Wiegenlied" and "Salzburg-Mozartzimmer", with the artist's signature "Nachlass H. Goering" along the lower edge. Hand color — warm cinnabar reds on the chairs, sienna in the floor, soft cream walls — applied directly to the plate on cream wove paper.
Goering trained in Bremen, sketched extensively across Austria and Germany, and emigrated to the Pacific Northwest in the early twentieth century where he continued to issue his composer-themed plates as a celebrated series. His Mozart titles — the Salzburg birth room, the Vienna apartments, the Sankt-Stephans setting — are among the most personal and atmospheric subjects in the run, prized as gifts for pianists, conductors, and lifelong Mozart listeners.
Slim gilt frame over a woven linen mat — finished, gallery-ready presentation. Works as a standalone wall accent above a piano, desk, or console, or as part of a column with the matching Beethoven and Haydn plates (sold separately in our store). Pair with a leather wing chair, a Henredon secretary, a Saarinen tulip side table, or any traditional, transitional, or Belgian-inspired interior.
