An original colored etching by Henry Goering (German/American, 1871–1944) celebrating Ludwig van Beethoven's Sixth Symphony — the "Pastorale" — paired in Goering's signature format with a meticulously hand-drawn phrase of music from the opening movement. The plate sets a leafy village courtyard against the composer's notation, with the inscription "L.v.Beethoven – VI Symphonie" worked into the right margin and the artist's pencil signature "Nachlass H. Goering" along the lower edge. Hand color — warm sienna, mossy green, soft ochre — applied directly to the plate impression on cream wove paper.
Goering trained in Bremen, traveled and sketched extensively across Austria and Germany, and emigrated to the Pacific Northwest in the early twentieth century, where he continued to issue his composer-themed plates as a celebrated series. The combination of architectural etching, hand color, and a calligraphic bar of period-correct sheet music was his signature contribution to the Viennese musical-portrait tradition, and his Beethoven, Haydn, and Mozart titles remain the most sought-after subjects in the run.
Slim gilt frame over a woven linen mat — finished, gallery-ready presentation. Works as a standalone wall accent above a desk or console, or as part of a column with the matching Haydn and Mozart plates (sold separately in our store). Pair with a leather wing chair, a Henredon secretary, a tulip side table, or any traditional, transitional, or Belgian-inspired interior.
