A vintage mid-to-late 1980s solid brass halogen floor lamp — a substantial, heavy, professionally-made designer fixture in the unmistakable design vocabulary of Casella Lighting (San Francisco). The lamp is built on a tall vertical brass pole (74" tall) rising from a small brass disc base, terminating at the top in a sculptural radial cluster of clear glass cylinder diffusers, each housing a linear R7s halogen tube suspended in a brass socket cup. The brass has aged into the warm matte-bronze patina that distinguishes period American studio brasswork from any contemporary reproduction.

The light source: linear R7s halogen. This is the defining technical feature of the fixture. Each glass cylinder houses one linear R7s halogen capsule (the classic double-ended halogen tube that became the signature designer light source of the 1970s-80s). R7s halogen produces a bright, warm-white, dimmable, instantly-on light with excellent color rendering (CRI ~100) — the kind of clean true-white illumination that incandescent and LED can only approximate. The cluster of glass cylinders diffuses the bright halogen tubes into a controlled wash of warm directional light without glare, throwing illumination both up (off the cluster) and down through the open cylinder bottoms. This is task-grade reading and ambient light, not decorative chandelier light.

Sourcing. This lamp comes from a Bay Area estate that was furnished with multiple confirmed Casella Lighting fixtures. While this specific piece does not show a visible Casella stamp on the surfaces we've inspected, the design vocabulary is squarely in Casella's catalog: the linear halogen technology, the heavy solid brass pole-and-disc-base construction, the multi-cylinder radial diffuser cluster, and the restrained architectural silhouette are all signatures of Casella's high-end designer halogen floor lamp work from the late 1970s and 1980s. Consider this a Casella-style attribution unless and until a definitive maker's mark is identified.

About Casella Lighting. Casella Lighting was a San Francisco-based maker founded in 1969 and operating through the 1990s, specializing in floor lamps and table lamps for the high-end residential and commercial designer market, with a particular reputation for early adoption of halogen technology as the designer light source of the era. Their pieces appeared in interiors by Michael Taylor, John Saladino, Cedric Hartman, and the broader West Coast designer community, and were sold through serious lighting showrooms (Casella's own SF showroom, plus Pacific Heights specialty dealers). Casella halogen floor lamps from this era are now actively collected on 1stDibs, Chairish, Incollect, and Live Auctioneers, with single floor lamps regularly trading in the $1,400-$3,500 range depending on configuration and condition.

Dating. The original wiring assembly — silver-jacketed translucent SPT cord, polarized 2-prong NEMA 1-15P plug (post-1985 UL standard), and inline black rocker switch with LED pilot indicator — together place the fixture squarely in the mid-to-late 1980s, consistent with the estate's documented 1980s decoration period and Casella's peak production era. The originality of the wiring (rather than later replacement) is itself meaningful — it confirms the fixture has not been disturbed from its as-built configuration.

Four available. This lamp is one of four identical pieces available from the same estate, sold individually at this price. Buyers planning a coordinated multi-fixture installation (a great-room with paired floor lamps flanking a sofa and matching pieces in adjoining sitting areas, a hotel lobby with rhythmic placement, a long open-plan space, a restaurant or hospitality install) — please inquire about a multi-piece purchase discount. The opportunity to source four matched period designer halogen floor lamps from a single estate is rare on the secondary market.

Use cases. Single lamp: behind a deep sofa or sectional for serious reading light, in a reading corner alongside a chair, flanking a fireplace, anchoring a deep bay window, or as the principal task-light source in a serious living room or study. Pair: flanking a sofa, a console, a fireplace, or a bed. Set of three or four: a rhythmic placement throughout a great room, a long open-plan ground floor, a hospitality or commercial install, or a serious collector's interior where matched period halogen lighting becomes the design statement.

Pairs naturally with mid-century walnut, the broader California Look (Michael Taylor, Brayton, Maddux Creative), warm-modernist plaster, deep linen seating, and contemporary minimalist interiors where a single piece of period American designer brasswork becomes the focal point.

Bulbs: uses standard linear R7s halogen capsules — readily available from any lighting supplier, typically 78mm length, 100W-150W common in this fixture format. We test the lamp before shipping; bulbs may or may not be included depending on remaining life. Compatible with R7s halogen LED replacement bulbs if buyer prefers contemporary energy-efficient operation while preserving the original fixture aesthetic.

Wiring: original 1980s plug-in cord, switch, and plug — fully functional as confirmed in our testing. Vintage wiring; we recommend a routine inspection by a licensed electrician before long-term installation, or replacement of the cord if the buyer prefers fresh wiring.
